Bax’s Mobility Team launched a roadmap workshop for automated public transport in partnership with EIT Urban Mobility Academy. Through an interactive and collaborative work programme, mobility managers receive a localised roadmap for transforming their local services with automated and demand-responsive services.
Bus driver shortages and growing gaps in rural public transport services are increasingly common in Northern Europe. Automated public transport could be the answer to many of these mobility gaps, but there’s a lack of high quality planning materials available to help public transport authorities understand how advances in automation could impact public mobility services in the coming decade. development.
Approach
In collaboration with EIT Urban Mobility, we created a roadmapping workshop in which European municipalities learn an actionable step-by-step approach to connected, cooperative, automated mobility (CCAM) in their public mobility services. The assessment workshops brought together five mobility managers across Europe to share experiences and learn our Mobility team’s roadmapping methodology.
Impact
Upon completing the assessment, participants received a customised roadmap to direct their future planning for automated mobility.
CCAM is emerging as a promising solution for public mobility challenges, offering a potential reduction in operating costs of 50% and limiting the impact of persistent driver shortages. The key to realising this value is a robust long-term roadmap which details the timeline, use cases and actions needed for automation to provide safe, high-quality trips at low cost.
