Seeking new funding opportunities, Ignite Sweden partnered with Bax’s European Programmes team to develop a strategic European funding and networking roadmap. The roadmap explored a portfolio of EU funding options to create increased value and opportunities for Swedish start-ups. The strategy will enable Ignite Sweden to scale up its innovation support by expanding its access to finance through European Union funding opportunities and broadening its networking activities across Europe.
Ignite, a national non-profit start-up platform, helps start-ups accelerate their innovation journey. Over the past seven years, it has supported more than 1,700 start-ups to connect with over 400 corporate and public sector entities, resulting in more than 700 commercial collaborations. While primarily funded by Vinnova, the Swedish Innovation Agency, Ignite sought to explore additional opportunities to create intra-European collaborations for start-ups. With limited experience of the European funding landscape, Ignite needed strategic guidance on where to focus its efforts to secure European funding.

Approach
Bax conducted a needs assessment and evaluated EU funding instruments aligned with Ignite’s objectives, assessing 23 funding streams for compatibility. Drawing on its experience in securing over €1 billion in European funding, the European Programmes team recommended a decision-making process for identifying suitable funding sources and provided strategic advice for Ignite’s future funding approach.
Impact
Within just two months of Bax’s EU Funding Scan, Ignite became an official EIC Ecosystem partner thanks to Bax’s advice and consultation.
