Working for a variety of companies, governments and research institutes, he has a keen eye for identifying economic opportunities and the need for innovation.

After graduating from the Technical University Delft (Industrial design engineering) in 1991, he joined Willems & van den Wildenberg, the predecessor of Bax & Company. In over 14 years, of which 10 years as partner of the firm, a wide variety of consultancy projects were successfully delivered. Working on the crossroad of technology and business. Ranging from improvement of the R&D-process at SME’s, policy advice, creation of new business to the set up and management of European collaborative projects. Kees specialised in environmental management in ports and industry.

He continued his career as R&D manager at Port of Rotterdam authority. He developed and implemented an innovation strategy, which resulted in intense cooperation with universities, research institutions, port companies, start-ups, local government and other port authorities. Main achievement was to have ‘port research’ put on the agenda of a large number of stakeholders and the creation of SmartPort.

In 2012 Kees switched to one of the universities he worked with. At the Rotterdam University of applied sciences he developed a new research center: Sustainable Mainport Innovation. This center for applied research grew in two years to 18 professors and 60 researchers. Main aims were to prepare students for a career in the port of the future (post fossil, resilient, inclusive), to improve education and to develop new knowledge and solutions. Later, as strategy consultant to the board, he contributed to the Corporate Strategy 2025.

At the end of 2016 Kees reunited with his study mate, former business partner and friend Laszlo Bax. Kees is representing Bax & Company in the Netherlands. Ready to share his know how from 12 years working in industry and university and expertise as innovation consultant.
