European Automotive OEMs challenge innovators to improve efficiency

ALLIANCE Lightweight Open Innovation Challenge

The winners will get the chance to present their results in a dedicated presentation at the Aachen Body Engineering Days 2018

Six leading European carmakers (Daimler, Volvo, Opel, Toyota, Volkswagen and Centro Ricerche FCA), four suppliers (Thyssenkrupp, Novelis, Batz, Benteler) and eight knowledge partners (Swerea, Inspire, Fraunhofer LBF, RWTH-IKA, KIT-IPEK, University of Florence, Bax & Company, Ricardo) have joined forces to form the ALLIANCE project, aimed at addressing the need for more efficient vehicles. They have launched an open competition to find state-of-the-art lightweight vehicle solutions.

The ALLIANCE partners are inviting innovators to participate in the Lightweight Open Innovation Challenge, and present their lightweighting solutions in two categories: Materials, and Manufacturing.

Participants have until January 15th to submit their innovative lightweight solutions to a jury of industry professionals. Entries will be judged on three criteria: technology quality, vehicle applicability, and complementarity with ALLIANCE.

Innovators will have unique access to high level technical support throughout the competition period along with the opportunity to pre-assess the feasibility of their technology in a virtual vehicle model used in the ALLIANCE project.

The winners will present their results in a dedicated presentation at the Aachen Body Engineering Days 2018, and have the opportunity to bring their technologies to a board formed by the ALLIANCE OEM’s (Daimler, Volvo, Opel, Toyota, Volkswagen, Centro Ricerche FCA).
