Location: Europe-wide

Working with 17 partners from across Europe, Bax led the development and secured EU funding for the COBRA project, which developed innovative cobalt-free battery technology to address the critical safety, cost, and environmental challenges of lithium-ion batteries. Through strategic communication, exploitation efforts, and market intelligence, we ensured COBRA’s results reached key stakeholders and supported Europe’s transition to sustainable electric mobility.

Challenge

As electric vehicle adoption surges, the demand for advanced battery technology intensifies. Europe faces stiff competition in the global battery market, necessitating innovative solutions to boost competitiveness. The COBRA project tackled technical, safety, cost, and environmental challenges inherent in current lithium-ion batteries, aiming to pave the way for a sustainable, high-performance alternative.

Approach

Bax’s role involved driving strategic communication and exploitation efforts. We led the compilation of 24 market intelligence reports, meticulously analysing key technical, policy, and market developments shaping the electric vehicle battery landscape. These reports provide invaluable insights to stakeholders, guiding decision-making and fostering collaboration. Our expertise amplified the project’s impact through the development of the COBRA brand, active representation at industry events, and engagement on social media platforms. From new anode technologies and cathode materials to insights on the EU’s forthcoming battery regulation, our team covered a vast range of topics to ensure COBRA’s relevance and influence. Additionally, our exploitation methodology guided industrial partners in preparing innovations for commercialisation, maximising the use of project outcomes.

Impact

We laid the foundations for the COBRA project, securing €11.8 million in funding and shaping its strategy to maximise impact. Our efforts ensured the project’s outcomes reached stakeholders and supported Europe’s push for sustainable battery innovation.
