Date: 2024 – 2026
Location: Mediterranean area
Working with leading universities across the Mediterranean, Bax is tackling traffic congestion and air pollution in urban areas by promoting public and shared mobility hubs. To adapt these hubs to Mediterranean transport habits, the project will investigate the readiness of citizens and policymakers for these changes and explore ways to promote a shift in local mobility culture. With six partners from various Mediterranean countries, the initiative will develop a strategy for inclusive, sustainable mobility that benefits residents and tourists alike.
The potential of mobility hubs to reduce traffic congestion and decrease reliance on private cars has been well established in Northern and Central Europe. However, the concept has yet to be adapted to the unique transport habits and cultures of the Mediterranean region. Understanding the readiness of citizens and policymakers in this area to accept and use mobility hubs is essential for ensuring their successful integration.
Approach
The initiative will develop a joint strategy for green and inclusive mobility hubs for Mediterranean regions, both urban and interurban. Through primary research and interviews with policymakers and stakeholders, the initiative aims to collect requirements from Mediterranean transport users and policymakers to tailor the mobility hub concepts to regional transport patterns. With the support of Bax, the universities involved are building a knowledge exchange network across the Mediterranean to share best practices collected.
