WHAT TO EXPECT

Session Plan

Session 1 – Setting the Path

The first group strategy workshop gets you up to speed on all you need to know to make informed decisions on automation. You will first learn a comprehensive account of the current state of automation in Europe, curated with public transport in mind. We will then introduce you to the most promising future use cases identified that we have identified through more than ten of the most advanced automation deployments across Europe. 

Objective: By the end of this session, you will understand the state of the market and future use case potential for automation.

Session 2 – Finding your Way

With the foundations set, a member of the Future Mobility advisory team will help you define your priorities for automated public transport. This 1-on-1 session includes: 

  • Talking through and assessing opportunities automation presents for your local area’s public transport needs.
  • Identifying the highest potential use cases for automation that make sense for your local public transport operations, including assessment of the business case.
  • Outlining the role and responsibilities that your organisation should take to advance service improvements through automation.

Objective: By the end of the session, you will have a clear understanding of how automation could upgrade your public transport services, and the role you should take to make that happen.

Session 3 – Preparing the Journey

In the final session, you will have the chance to present and discuss the outcomes of the strategic assessment with mobility managers peers and invited experts. You will gather input from like-minded managers and refine your understanding of the strategic role you have identified, ready to return your organisation to drive change. 

Objective: By the end of this session, you will be able to confidently articulate the case for AV in your transport operations.

Giel Mertens

Giel is a senior mobility advisor specialising in autonomous vehicle planning. He is project management lead on the €4m EU project “Planning for Autonomous Vehicles” (PAV).

Academic Director

Sebastiaan van Herk PhD

Sebastian oversees academic programmes at Bax & Company. He is an innovation strategy advisor with 20 years of experience, having led projects exceeding €200M in innovation funding. He holds a PhD in Climate Adaptation & Water Management and an MSc in Technology, Policy & Management.
